The same Custom 24 body and neck already documented for the SE Custom 24 in this project, built instead around a switching system that pushes versatility further: two mini-toggle switches let each pickup be flipped independently between humbucker and true single-coil mode, combining with the standard 3-way selector for eight total tonal configurations rather than the usual three or six.

About the PRS SE Custom 24-08

Body, neck and fingerboard on the Custom 24-08 are unchanged from the regular SE Custom 24 already documented in this project - the same 3-piece mahogany back with flamed maple cap, glued-in Wide Thin maple neck, 25-inch scale and bird-inlaid rosewood board. What sets this model apart lives entirely in the electronics bay. Instead of the 85/15 'S' humbuckers used on the standard SE Custom 24, this model runs PRS TCI 'S' pickups - TCI standing for Tuned Capacitance and Inductance, PRS's own approach to voicing the coil's electrical characteristics for a specific tonal target. The real distinguishing feature, though, is the switching: alongside the usual 3-way pickup selector, two small toggle switches let each pickup be flipped independently into true single-coil mode by splitting the coil, rather than just tapping it. Multiplying the 3-way selector's three positions by each mini-toggle's two states gives eight total configurations - including both pickups split simultaneously for a dual-single-coil tone that a standard 3-way-only wiring can't reach.

Sound character of the PRS SE Custom 24-08

In full humbucker mode the TCI 'S' pickups deliver a powerful, modern character with chunky power chords that transition smoothly into lead tones, while the single-coil split settings open into an open, sweet-sounding voice - the bridge pickup keeps real snarl and attack in split mode without tipping into shrillness. Clean tones stay warm, round and full rather than thin even in split mode, making the guitar equally credible for fingerstyle and jazz-adjacent clean work as for higher-gain rhythm and lead playing.

Warm Full-bodied Midrange-forward Crisp Resonant

What owners of the PRS SE Custom 24-08 say

Players consistently describe this as among the most versatile single guitars they've owned, with one forum discussion featuring an owner saying they could imagine needing nothing else in their collection. The split tones draw specific praise for sounding like genuine single coils rather than the thin, slightly hollow approximation some coil-splits produce, and an owner who directly compared this SE version against the USA Core 24-08 called the SE model fully capable of covering everything they need, rather than a noticeably lesser alternative. A minority of owners find the mini-toggle switching less practically useful in day-to-day playing than expected, and isolated tuning-stability complaints appear in forum discussion, though they sit against an otherwise strongly positive consensus.

Playability & handling of the PRS SE Custom 24-08

Playability matches the SE Custom 24 covered elsewhere in this project - a 25-inch scale that sits between Gibson and Fender norms, with the Wide Thin neck carve and bird-inlaid fingerboard carrying over unchanged. The molded tremolo on this model is specifically noted for silky-smooth action and rounded edges that don't catch the picking hand, and the fretwork across the neck is described as cleanly and evenly dressed.

Recommended accessories & strings for the PRS SE Custom 24-08

The eight switching combinations genuinely function as eight distinct, musically useful tones rather than a gimmick with mostly redundant settings according to reviewers - a player can cover clean jazz and fingerstyle tones through the split settings and switch to full humbucker chunk for rhythm or lead without reaching for a second guitar. Because the dual-single-coil setting (both mini-toggles up) is only reachable on the 24-08 wiring, it's worth specifically exploring that combination rather than defaulting to familiar humbucker-only habits.

The history of the PRS SE Custom 24-08

The Custom 24 platform underlying this guitar is the model PRS itself traces its founding back to in 1985, and the '24' in both names refers to that original 24-fret design. The '08' suffix is newer and specific to this switching variant, added once PRS extended the platform with the two-mini-toggle coil-split system - a configuration that exists in parallel across PRS's USA Core, S2 and this Indonesia-built SE tier, rather than being an SE-exclusive gimmick bolted onto an otherwise standard guitar.

About PRS as a manufacturer

Built as part of PRS's Indonesia-made SE line (background on the line's origin is documented for the SE Custom 24 elsewhere in this project), the 24-08 shows PRS extending a switching concept developed for its premium Core and S2 guitars down into the SE tier rather than reserving that complexity for USA-made instruments only.

Notable players & recordings featuring the PRS SE Custom 24-08

No verified professional endorsement ties a specific touring artist to this exact SE switching variant - as with other SE guitars documented in this project, the deeper artist connection belongs to the SE line's origin as a whole rather than this specific model.
