Charvel's bass take on its San Dimas shape, bringing the brand's guitar-world speed-neck construction and PJ pickup versatility to a four-string built for rock and metal players.
About the Charvel Pro-Mod San Dimas Bass PJ IV
Charvel built its reputation on fast-playing solidbody guitars, and the Pro-Mod San Dimas Bass PJ IV carries that same construction philosophy over: a super-thin bolt-on maple "speed neck" with graphite reinforcement, a compound-radius fingerboard that flattens from 12 inches at the nut to 16 inches by the heel for comfortable chording low and fast single-note runs high, plus 20 jumbo frets and rolled fingerboard edges. The PJ pickup pairing - a DiMarzio Model P humbucking single-coil at the middle position and a DiMarzio Model J at the bridge - covers both the P-Bass's fundamental-heavy growl and the Jazz Bass's brighter articulation from a single instrument.
An active 3-band EQ with a pickup blend control lets players dial between the two pickups' distinct voicings, and a push/pull switch on the master volume bypasses the active circuit entirely, meaning a dead 9-volt battery drops the bass to passive operation rather than cutting the signal. Positioned within Charvel's Pro-Mod series alongside the brand's guitars, the San Dimas Bass PJ IV targets rock and metal bassists who want Charvel's guitar-derived neck feel and modern playability rather than a vintage-styled P- or J-Bass reproduction.

Sound character of the Charvel Pro-Mod San Dimas Bass PJ IV
DiMarzio's Model P and Model J pickups typically run hotter and more aggressive than stock Fender-style pickups, and paired with active 3-band EQ and blend control (plus a passive-bypass option for the traditional PJ tone), the San Dimas Bass PJ IV leans toward a modern, higher-gain voice suited to harder playing styles.
