Fender Player II Modified Active Precision Bass

About the Fender Player II Modified Active Precision Bass

The standard Player II Precision Bass keeps to Fender's traditional formula: one split single-coil pickup and passive electronics. The "Modified Active" version changes both, adding a single-coil pickup at the bridge alongside the split P pickup for a PJ configuration, and replacing the passive circuit with an active preamp offering bass and treble boost/cut. That combination lets the instrument move between the P-Bass's traditional thick, midrange-forward growl and a brighter, more scooped Jazz Bass-like character from the bridge pickup, with the preamp available to shape either further.

Within Fender's current Mexican-made Player II range, the Modified Active Precision Bass sits as a variant aimed at players who want P-Bass fundamentals with more tonal range than the standard single-pickup model offers, without moving up to the US-made American Professional II or Ultra II lines. It shares the Player II series' updated body contouring and neck profile but distinguishes itself specifically through this added pickup and active circuit rather than any change to the woods or overall construction.

Sound character of the Fender Player II Modified Active Precision Bass

Adding a single-coil J pickup at the bridge alongside the split P pickup (a PJ layout) brings extra brightness and definition on top of the P pickup's thick fundamental, and the active preamp replacing the standard passive circuit extends the available bass/treble range well beyond the fixed passive Player II Precision Bass tone.
