About the Fender American Standard Jazz Bass 2008 - 2016
The American Standard Jazz Bass represented Fender's baseline US-made Jazz Bass for this eight-year window, built around an alder body, a C-shaped maple neck and a pair of vintage-style single-coil Jazz Bass pickups wired for the classic dual-volume-plus-tone control layout. Compared to the American Series it replaced, the American Standard introduced a slightly updated bridge and a satin urethane finish on the back of the neck for a faster feel, changes aimed at refining rather than reinventing the formula.
It occupies the middle of Fender's historical Jazz Bass hierarchy from this era: above the Mexican-made Standard Jazz Bass in build origin and hardware grade, but below the American Vintage reissues that targeted specific decades' exact specifications. When Fender restructured its US lineup in 2017, the American Standard name was retired in favor of American Professional, making surviving American Standard-era instruments a distinct, bounded generation rather than an ongoing model line.
