About the Fender Fullerton Jazzmaster Uke

The Fullerton Jazzmaster Uke translates Fender's guitar body shape onto a concert-sized acoustic ukulele: a spruce top over mahogany back and sides with a painted headstock and four vintage Kluson-style in-line tuners, styled like a small Jazzmaster rather than the round-bodied instrument most ukuleles use. A no-tie bridge design lets strings be changed the way a guitarist would, without the traditional tie-bar knot ukulele players normally have to tie.

The maple neck carries a walnut fingerboard at a 15.04-inch scale with a flat radius and 19 frets, at a 1.38-inch synthetic bone nut - notably wide for a ukulele, closer to guitar proportions. A Fender-designed preamp built into the body gives separate volume and tone controls plus a built-in tuner, functioning like a scaled-down acoustic-electric guitar system rather than the simpler piezo-only pickups common on other electrified ukuleles.

Sound character of the Fender Fullerton Jazzmaster Uke

The spruce top over mahogany back and sides gives a fairly standard concert-ukulele balance - bright top end from the spruce, warmth and body from the mahogany - with the built-in preamp adding clean, transparent amplification rather than any tonal coloring of its own.

The history of the Fender Fullerton Jazzmaster Uke

Fender's Fullerton series (named for the California city where the company was founded) brought several of its signature guitar body shapes - Jazzmaster, Telecaster, Stratocaster - to ukulele form, aimed at guitarists wanting a smaller, portable instrument that still visually and electronically resembles a Fender guitar.
