A tenor ukulele built like a solid-body electric guitar in reverse: back and sides carved from a single solid block of paulownia rather than bent and glued, with a spruce top and a stereo dual-soundhole system for wider sound projection.

About the Ibanez AUP10N

Most acoustic instruments bend and join separate pieces of wood for the back and sides; the AUP10N instead starts as a single solid block of paulownia that's routed out, leaving the back and sides as one continuous piece before a solid spruce top is added - a construction method more associated with Ibanez's electric guitar background than traditional ukulele building. The paulownia is notably lightweight, keeping the tenor-sized instrument easy to hold despite the solid-block construction.

Ibanez's stereo sound port system places an additional sound hole on the waist of the body alongside the main soundhole, intended to project sound more evenly toward the player as well as outward. The neck is okoume with a purpleheart fingerboard at a 17-inch scale and 400mm fingerboard radius, 19 frets, bone nut and saddle, black die-cast tuners, and a purpleheart double-hole bridge for tool-free string changes. It ships with a fitted Ibanez gig bag.

Sound character of the Ibanez AUP10N

Paulownia is a notably soft, lightweight tonewood that tends to favor warmth and a fast, gentle attack over the brighter snap of denser woods like mahogany, and the single-block back/sides construction reduces the seams and joints that can slightly damp resonance in a bent-and-glued body. The dual stereo sound ports project sound more evenly toward the player as well as outward, giving an airier, more open feel than a single-soundhole ukulele.

The history of the Ibanez AUP10N

The AUP10N applies Ibanez's electric-guitar manufacturing know-how - CNC-routed solid bodies, ergonomic details like the sound port system - to an acoustic tenor ukulele, aimed at players who want a distinctive engineering approach rather than a traditionally built Hawaiian-style instrument.
