Fender PB-62 Precision Bass Reissue (MIJ)

About the Fender PB-62 Precision Bass Reissue (MIJ)

The PB-62 belongs to Fender Japan's long-running reissue lineup, recreating the 1962-era Precision Bass specification with some notable deviations from the original that reflect Fender Japan's own manufacturing conventions. The neck uses an oval "D" profile at a 42mm nut width, narrower than the 44mm width and "C" profile of genuine early-1960s American P-Basses - a difference collectors and players familiar with vintage examples often note. The rosewood slab fingerboard sits at a vintage-spec 7.25-inch radius on the standard 34-inch scale.

The alder body pairs with a single split-coil P-bass pickup for the model's characteristic punchy, full-bodied tone, and hardware includes a bridge with spiral threaded saddles and dome-top knurled control knobs. As with other Fender Japan reissues, the PB-62 was produced across several decades and factories (commonly abbreviated MIJ or CIJ depending on era), so exact specifications can vary meaningfully between individual examples depending on their production year.

Sound character of the Fender PB-62 Precision Bass Reissue (MIJ)

Built to 1962 specifications, this Japan-made reissue's split-coil pickup and vintage-correct wiring reproduce the classic warm, punchy P-Bass fundamental of the era rather than the higher-output voicing of modern Precision Basses.

The history of the Fender PB-62 Precision Bass Reissue (MIJ)

Fender Japan began producing reissue-spec Precision Basses in 1982, contracting Japanese manufacturers including FujiGen to build historically accurate instruments in response to inconsistent build quality at the CBS-owned Fullerton factory at the time. The PB-62 designation specifically targets the 1962-era Precision Bass specification, and has remained a consistent part of Fender Japan's reissue catalog across multiple production periods.
