A Made-in-Japan Standard-spec Precision Bass, built under Fender's Japanese manufacturing operation to a contemporary, non-reissue P-Bass specification distinct from the American and Mexican lines.
About the Fender PB-Standard Precision Bass MIJ
Fender's Japanese manufacturing arm has run since the 1980s as its own parallel line, originally built to serve the Japanese domestic market and known internationally for tight tolerances and consistent fret work at a price between Fender's Mexican-made and American-made instruments. The PB-Standard designation places this Precision Bass in Fender Japan's non-vintage, contemporary-spec catalog - alder or basswood body, standard split single-coil P pickup, C-shaped maple neck - as opposed to the numbered reissue models (PB-'50s, PB-'62, and so on) that target a specific decade's exact features.
For players outside Japan, MIJ Precision Basses are typically sourced secondhand through export channels rather than bought new through Fender's regular US or European dealer network, which is part of why they carry a reputation as a build-quality find relative to their price: the manufacturing standards of Fender Japan's contracted factories (historically Fujigen and Dyna) are widely regarded as on par with or exceeding Fender's Mexican-made instruments of the same era.

Sound character of the Fender PB-Standard Precision Bass MIJ
Built on Fender's Japanese production line, this uses the same split single-coil P pickup, alder/basswood body and C-profile maple neck as other standard P-Basses, so its thick, punchy fundamental comes from the familiar P-Bass formula rather than any Japan-specific tonal difference - the manufacturing line is known instead for tight build tolerances.
