A natural-walnut-finished version of Rickenbacker's 4003, sharing the model's neck-through-body construction, horseshoe/humbucker pickup pairing and distinctive 'R' tailpiece, differing from standard 4003s only in finish.
About the Rickenbacker 4003W Walnut
The 4003W is built to the same specification as any other 4003: a maple-and-walnut neck-through-body construction, a vintage-style horseshoe-covered single coil at the neck paired with a humbucking pickup at the bridge, and Rickenbacker's dual-output 'Rick-O-Sound' wiring that allows the two pickups to be split to separate amplifiers via a stereo cable. The 'W' designation refers strictly to the finish - a natural walnut stain that shows the wood grain, distinct from the gloss Fireglo, Jetglo or Mapleglo finishes more commonly seen on 4003s.
Because Rickenbacker basses are built in-house in the US in comparatively small numbers with limited finish runs at any given time, a walnut-finished 4003 typically represents a specific production batch rather than a permanent catalog fixture, which is part of why finish variants like this one carry their own identity among 4003 buyers despite being mechanically and electronically identical to other 4003s.

Sound character of the Rickenbacker 4003W Walnut
This is electronically identical to other 4003 models - the same horseshoe neck pickup and bridge humbucker through a through-body neck - so the natural walnut finish changes the look, not the bright, growling, resonant Rickenbacker voice.
