A faithful, vintage-correct take on Fender's 1958 offset design that - unlike the brand's own current Player II Jazzmaster - keeps the full classic rhythm circuit intact: a separate slide-switch-activated signal path with its own thumbwheel volume and tone controls, isolated to the neck pickup for an instantly recallable darker tone. Reviewers consistently rate the build quality, neck feel and authentic Jazzmaster voice as well above what the price point would suggest, with the one recurring owner complaint being bridge buzz on some units that typically resolves with a careful setup.

About the Squier Classic Vibe '60s Jazzmaster

Where Fender's own Player II Jazzmaster deliberately strips out the model's historic dual-circuit electronics for simplicity, this Squier Classic Vibe version keeps them fully intact: alongside the standard lead circuit - one volume, one tone, and a 3-way switch - sits a genuine rhythm circuit, engaged via the slide switch on the upper horn, that routes signal exclusively through the neck pickup and shapes it with two dedicated thumbwheel controls using different potentiometer values than the lead circuit. The result is an instantly recallable second voice, noticeably darker than the lead circuit's neck tone, that vintage Jazzmaster players specifically look for and that simplified modern reissues often omit. Built on a poplar body with a bolt-on maple neck in a Modern C profile, the guitar pairs a 9.5-inch-radius laurel fingerboard with narrow-tall frets and two Fender-designed Alnico single-coils for the pickups themselves.

Sound character of the Squier Classic Vibe '60s Jazzmaster

The two Fender-designed Alnico single-coils deliver what reviewers call the quintessential Jazzmaster voice through the lead circuit - bright, articulate and chiming, with enough clarity to cut through a mix. Switching to the rhythm circuit swaps in a warmer, rounder neck-pickup-only tone shaped by different potentiometer values, noticeably darker than anything available on the lead circuit and instantly recallable via the slide switch rather than requiring manual knob adjustment. Between the two independent circuits, the guitar offers a genuinely wide tonal range for a single-pickup-pair instrument rather than the narrower palette typical of simpler switching schemes.

Bright Airy Vintage-voiced Mellow Resonant

What owners of the Squier Classic Vibe '60s Jazzmaster say

Owner and reviewer sentiment is consistently strong, with build quality, playability and authentic Jazzmaster tone repeatedly described as punching well above the guitar's price point. Players who specifically want the vintage rhythm circuit value this model for retaining it in full, in direct contrast to Fender's own simplified Player II version - a meaningful differentiator for anyone who grew attached to the classic switching scheme on an original or a higher-tier reissue. The clearest recurring frustration is bridge buzz on individual units, which several owners traced to the bridge not sitting perfectly vertical and largely resolved through a careful setup, with a smaller number also reporting grounding noise during heavy vibrato use that occasionally required drilling a dedicated ground connection.

Playability & handling of the Squier Classic Vibe '60s Jazzmaster

Reviewers repeatedly single out the slim, comfortable Modern C neck profile paired with narrow-tall frets as making playability effortless for seasoned players and newcomers alike, often describing the neck finish as silky-smooth enough to feel like a noticeably more expensive instrument. Combined with the offset body shape and 9.5-inch fingerboard radius, the overall ergonomics draw consistent praise as genuinely comfortable rather than merely adequate for the price. The one recurring complaint in owner discussion concerns bridge buzz on some individual units - one player reported a persistent rattle on nearly every note, while another traced the issue to the bridge not sitting perfectly vertical and resolved most of it through a proper setup, with a little remaining buzz only audible without palm-muting; a handful of owners have also reported intermittent grounding noise when using the vibrato arm heavily, occasionally addressed by drilling a dedicated ground connection to the floating bridge.

Recommended accessories & strings for the Squier Classic Vibe '60s Jazzmaster

If bridge buzz shows up on an individual unit, owner experience points first to a careful setup with the bridge seated perfectly vertical before reaching for anything more drastic - that alone resolves most cases. Persistent grounding noise during heavy vibrato use is a less common, more advanced issue some owners have addressed by drilling a dedicated ground connection to the floating bridge, a modification worth leaving to a tech rather than attempting as a first step. For string choice, a .010-.046 set or heavier suits the offset format's typical feel and tension, consistent with other Jazzmaster-style instruments.

The history of the Squier Classic Vibe '60s Jazzmaster

The Jazzmaster's broader origin story - its 1958 debut as Fender's premium instrument aimed at jazz guitarists, its rejection by that very audience, and its adoption first by surf rock and later by alternative, indie and shoegaze players - is documented in full at this project's Player II Jazzmaster entry rather than repeated here. What distinguishes this Classic Vibe '60s version within that history is a deliberate choice to preserve rather than simplify: where Fender's own modern Player II tier removes the historic rhythm circuit for approachability, this Squier model keeps the full vintage dual-circuit electronics that originally debuted in 1958, making it a more historically faithful entry point into the offset format for players who specifically want that classic switching scheme.

About Squier as a manufacturer

Background on Squier as Fender's budget-focused subsidiary brand is documented elsewhere in this project's Squier research rather than repeated here. The Classic Vibe series specifically positions itself above Squier's entry-level Affinity line, targeting more historically faithful specifications and vintage-correct details for players who want an authentic period feel without the cost of an American-made original.

Notable players & recordings featuring the Squier Classic Vibe '60s Jazzmaster

No verified, model-specific signature-player association was found for this Squier Classic Vibe version. The Jazzmaster body shape's broader artist history with surf rock and later alternative, indie and shoegaze scenes is documented at this project's Player II Jazzmaster entry and applies to the model line and body shape in general rather than to this specific current-production series.
