About the Squier Classic Vibe '60s Mustang Bass

The Classic Vibe '60s Mustang Bass recreates Fender's short-scale offset design from the 1960s at a genuinely period-inspired specification level rather than as a simplified modern take. The body is nato in the offset Mustang shape, paired with a bolt-on maple neck carrying a slim "C" profile and a tinted gloss urethane finish. The Indian laurel fingerboard sits at a 9.5-inch radius with 20 narrow-tall frets on the short 30-inch scale, making the bass noticeably easier to reach across than a standard 34-inch instrument.

The single pickup is a Fender-designed split single-coil bass unit powered by Alnico magnets, wired to a simple master volume and tone control - a deliberately straightforward electronics layout in keeping with the original 1960s design. The bridge is a 4-saddle strings-through-body design intended to add sustain and resonance, paired with a genuine bone nut and vintage-style tuners finished in nickel-plated hardware throughout.

Sound character of the Squier Classic Vibe '60s Mustang Bass

A single pickup and a short 30" scale are what define the Mustang Bass's warm, slightly loose, mellow character - the shorter scale reduces string tension, softening attack and rounding off the top end compared to a full-scale J- or P-Bass.

The history of the Squier Classic Vibe '60s Mustang Bass

Fender introduced the Mustang Bass in 1966 as a short-scale companion to the Mustang guitar, aimed at players wanting an easier-to-handle instrument without sacrificing genuine Fender tone. Squier's Classic Vibe version revives that 1960s specification at an accessible price, aimed at players drawn to the short-scale feel and vintage-inspired look rather than as a beginner-only instrument.
