D Z Strad Cello Model 400

About the D Z Strad Cello Model 400

The Model 400 continues D Z Strad's practice of scaling tonewood quality and construction attention with model number, positioned as a more refined option than the Model 300 while still short of the brand's handmade professional-tier instruments starting around the 500 series. This intermediate tier suits a student whose technique and ear have progressed enough to benefit from finer tonal detail without yet requiring a fully handmade instrument's cost.

As with D Z Strad's broader numbered range, the Model 400 lets a student progress through clearly defined quality tiers as their playing develops, rather than facing a single large jump from a beginner outfit straight to a professional handmade cello.

Sound character of the D Z Strad Cello Model 400

Sitting between the Model 300 and D Z Strad's handmade professional tier starting at the 500, the Model 400 continues the same tonewood-quality progression, yielding a fuller and more resonant voice than the lower-numbered models while still falling short of the overtone complexity individually hand-carved instruments develop.
