A US-built, vintage-spec reissue recreating Fender's 1962 Jazz Bass, produced under Fender's American Vintage program until its 2012 replacement generation.
About the Fender American Vintage '62 Jazz Bass (1985 - 2012)
This model was Fender's US-made recreation of the original 1962 Jazz Bass specification: a stacked-knob or later three-control layout depending on production year, dual single-coil pickups in the Jazz Bass configuration, and a slimmer neck profile than the Precision Bass, aimed at players wanting period-correct construction rather than a modernized interpretation. It ran under Fender's American Vintage designation for over two decades, with incremental hardware and finish refinements along the way before the line was superseded in 2012.
As the long-running vintage-spec Jazz Bass within Fender's US catalog, it served as the reference point against which Fender's later American Vintage II and American Vintage reissues are still measured, having been in continuous production far longer than most reissue-era Fender models.

Sound character of the Fender American Vintage '62 Jazz Bass (1985 - 2012)
This vintage reissue recreates the original 1962 Jazz Bass spec: alnico single-coil pickups with lower output than modern ceramic pickups, a slim '60s neck, and an alder body - producing a warmer, more midrange-forward tone than current American Professional-series Jazz Basses, which use hotter, more hi-fi-voiced pickups.
