The bolt-on version of Warwick's Thumb Bass: ovangkol body and neck, a wenge fingerboard with an unusually flat 20-inch radius, 24 extra-hard brass frets, and active MEC electronics with stacked bass/treble controls.
About the Warwick Pro Series Thumb BO 4
The Thumb BO uses Warwick's distinctive body and neck combination of ovangkol, a dense African tonewood the company favors for its warm-but-articulate tonal character, paired with a wenge fingerboard - a comparatively hard, tightly grained wood chosen for brightness and durability. The fingerboard's 20-inch radius is unusually flat compared to most basses, aimed at consistent string height and easier fast playing across the full width of the neck. Frets are 24 extra-hard brass units, a harder alloy than standard nickel-silver frets for slower wear under aggressive playing styles.
Electronics are Warwick's active MEC J/J pickup pair with a 2-band preamp, controlled via volume, pickup balance, and stacked bass/treble knobs for compact but flexible tone shaping. Hardware includes Warwick's own machine heads and two-piece bridge, gold-finished on this model, along with Warwick's security locking strap system built into the design.

Sound character of the Warwick Pro Series Thumb BO 4
Warwick's MEC active pickups and preamp, combined with the dense wenge neck typical of the Thumb series, produce the brand's signature growly, aggressive, tightly focused low end - wenge's hardness and density add clarity and attack that softer tonewoods lack.

The history of the Warwick Pro Series Thumb BO 4
Warwick, founded in Germany in 1982, built its reputation on basses with an unusually pronounced, punchy low end and a design philosophy centered on African tonewoods like ovangkol and wenge rather than the ash, alder, and maple typical of American bass manufacturers. The Thumb series, in both bolt-on (BO) and neck-through (NT) construction, has remained one of the company's signature model lines since its introduction, closely associated with players in funk, metal, and progressive rock contexts.
