About the Recording King RK-R36 Madison (Mahogany)

The RK-R36 shares its core engineering with Recording King's popular RK-R35: a Mastertone-style cast bell brass tone ring and one-piece flange, planetary tuners, and dual coordinator rods, all considered pro-level features rarely found together at this price tier. The distinguishing choice is a select mahogany resonator and neck rather than the RK-R35's maple, generally associated with a slightly warmer tonal character and a darker visual grain.

Construction includes a 3-ply steam-bent maple rim (the rim itself stays maple regardless of resonator wood), a Padauk fretboard with an adjustable truss rod in the neck, and a Presto-style tailpiece. The peghead carries a black overlay with mother-of-pearl Recording King Madison branding and seagull fingerboard inlays, finished in brown gloss with ivoroid resonator binding, at the same 26 1/4-inch scale as the rest of Recording King's Madison line.

Sound character of the Recording King RK-R36 Madison (Mahogany)

The Madison Mahogany uses a Mastertone-style bell-brass tone ring - the same bright, cutting bluegrass-ring design found on premium banjos - but pairs it with a mahogany rather than maple resonator, which slightly warms and softens the ring's edge compared to a maple-bodied equivalent while keeping strong projection from the dual coordinator rods and solid construction.

Bright Warm Resonant

The history of the Recording King RK-R36 Madison (Mahogany)

Recording King's Madison series pairs Mastertone-referencing tone-ring construction with a choice of tonewoods, letting the RK-R36 serve players who specifically prefer mahogany's tonal character over the RK-R35's maple within an otherwise identical engineering platform.
