Availability: 0/10 (Very rare)
A discontinued beginner flute from Yamaha, predecessor to the current 221, still valued on the used market for the same reliable Yamaha build quality found across the brand's later student models.
About the Yamaha YFL-225
The YFL-225 combines a nickel-silver headjoint with a silver-plated body, closed tone holes, and an offset G - a straightforward beginner specification without a B foot, keeping the instrument lighter and less complex for a first-time player. As the direct predecessor to Yamaha's current 221, it represents an earlier generation of the same design philosophy Yamaha has carried through its student flute lineup for decades.
Because Yamaha's student flutes have long had a reputation for playability and value that outlasts any single model's production run, the discontinued YFL-225 remains actively sought on the used market by buyers who trust the brand's build consistency over chasing the newest model number.

Sound character of the Yamaha YFL-225
Like most beginner flutes, its tone comes primarily from silver-plated nickel-silver tubing, giving a brighter, more direct sound than the sterling-silver-headjoint flutes further up the range. It has a C foot only (no B foot), which keeps the tube shorter and the instrument lighter, but also means less added tube mass and low-register resonance compared with a B-foot flute.
