About the Pearl PFP-105E
Wood piccolos are prized for their warm tone but notoriously prone to cracking with climate change, a serious risk for an instrument that spends its life moving between outdoor marching rehearsals and indoor storage. Pearl's Grenaditte material was developed specifically to solve that problem - a composite engineered to mimic wood's weight, appearance and timbre while remaining stable in any climate, removing the crack risk without asking a player to accept a metal piccolo's different tone.
Its High Wave embouchure and split-E mechanism are aimed at precise intonation and effortless playability, while pinless construction and Pearl's one-piece core-bar design bring the same long-term mechanical reliability found across the brand's flutes into a much smaller, more delicate instrument. Pointed key arms further reduce the risk of keypad warping by holding each cup securely from its center.

Sound character of the Pearl PFP-105E
Its body is made from Pearl's proprietary Grenaditte composite rather than metal, specifically engineered to emulate the tone of a wooden piccolo - wood and wood-substitute piccolos are well known for a warmer, rounder, less shrill sound than metal ones, while being far more stable across humidity and temperature swings than real grenadilla wood. This gives it a notably mellower character than a silver-plated metal piccolo like Armstrong's 204.
