Yamaha's standard tenor trombone, built with a yellow brass bell and a smooth-action slide specifically engineered to stay reliable through years of school band handling.
About the Yamaha YSL-354
The YSL-354 uses an 8-inch yellow brass bell and dual-bore slide, a configuration Yamaha standardized across its student and standard trombones for a bright, clear tone that projects well in concert band settings without demanding advanced breath support from a beginning player. Its nickel-plated inner slide tubes are chrome-plated for corrosion resistance and smooth action, addressing the single most common maintenance issue on a beginner trombone - a slide that sticks or wears unevenly.
A fixed brass counterweight balances the horn's weight during long rehearsals, and an adjustable water key lets a student manage condensation buildup without adult supervision. Yamaha's manufacturing consistency across this line - the same quality control the brand applies to its professional instruments - is why the YSL-354 remains a common recommendation for school band programs choosing a first trombone.

Sound character of the Yamaha YSL-354
The YSL-354's 8-inch yellow brass bell and dual-bore chrome-plated slide give it the bright, clear projection typical of yellow brass, with enough bore size to stay full-bodied rather than thin. Its dual-bore slide (narrower in the upper section, wider lower) balances quick response with a solid core tone, making it a standard-tier horn that already sounds more resonant than an entry student model.
