A step-up bluegrass banjo with Deering's 20-hole bell bronze tone ring and a one-piece cast zinc flange, positioned between the entry Goodtime line and Deering's professional Sierra-adjacent instruments.
About the Deering Sierra
The Sierra uses Deering's -06- 20-hole bell bronze tone ring, a heavier, more resonant tone-ring casting than the tube-style rings on entry banjos, mounted on a three-ply violin-grade maple rim. A one-piece cast zinc flange (rather than a two-piece stamped flange) provides a more rigid connection between rim and resonator, generally associated with fuller sustain and a more focused bluegrass attack.
The neck carries a natural ebony fingerboard with 22 pressed-in nickel silver frets in Deering's slender neck profile, at the same 26 1/4-inch scale used across most Deering 5-strings. Deering's own planetary tuners and geared 5th-string tuner provide precise tuning, with a brass notched tension hoop and nickel-plated hardware throughout. At 11 pounds it's noticeably heavier than a Goodtime, reflecting the denser tone-ring casting, and ships with a hardshell case.

Sound character of the Deering Sierra
The Sierra steps up to a 20-hole bell-bronze tone ring - prized in bluegrass circles for a bright, ringing, highly resonant tone - combined with a one-piece cast zinc flange and ebony fretboard for extra sustain and clarity. At roughly 11 lbs it's Deering's heaviest, loudest resonator model, built to project strongly in a bluegrass jam.

The history of the Deering Sierra
The Sierra sits in Deering's mid-tier production range, aimed at intermediate to advancing bluegrass players who want a genuine bell-bronze tone ring - the tone-ring style associated with vintage pre-war Gibson Mastertones - without stepping up to Deering's fully hand-inlaid top-tier models.
