The resonator-equipped step up from the CC-50, adding a removable maple resonator, dual coordinator rods and a rolled brass tone ring for a fuller, more directional bluegrass sound.
About the Gold Tone CC-100R
The CC-100R takes the CC-50's open-back formula and adds a 13-inch maple resonator that can be removed entirely to convert the banjo to open-back playing - a versatility feature not every resonator banjo offers. Dual coordinator rods (rather than the CC-50's single rod) provide a more rigid neck-to-rim connection, generally associated with better sustain and tuning stability under the added tension a resonator setup implies.
Construction includes a multi-ply maple rim with a rolled brass tone ring, a maple neck with rosewood fingerboard and snowflake inlays across 22 frets, and a two-way adjustable truss rod. Hardware is chrome-plated throughout: sealed guitar-style tuners, an 18-bracket flat-bar tension hoop with black ABS binding, a 5-String Terminator tailpiece, and a bone nut at 1-3/16 inches, with an engraved armrest completing the package at 6.5 lbs.

Sound character of the Gold Tone CC-100R
The CC-100R pairs a rolled brass tone ring with a removable resonator held by dual coordinator rods - players can run it as a resonator banjo for a brighter, more projected bluegrass-leaning tone, or take the resonator off for a warmer, quieter open-back voice. The rolled-brass ring itself is moderate in brightness compared to a solid bell-bronze ring.

The history of the Gold Tone CC-100R
The CC-100R extends Gold Tone's Cripple Creek beginner line into resonator territory, aimed at players who start with bluegrass ambitions from day one rather than the old-time/clawhammer style the open-back CC-50 primarily suits.
