One of the most widely recommended beginner open-back banjos: multi-ply maple rim with a rolled brass tone ring, hard maple neck, and a full factory setup, sold complete with gig bag.
About the Gold Tone CC-50
The CC-50 pairs a multi-ply maple rim with a rolled brass tone ring - a genuine metal tone ring rather than a bare wood hoop, at a price point where many competitors skip it entirely - and a hard maple neck with rosewood fingerboard across 22 frets. As an open-back design, it's built for old-time and clawhammer playing styles rather than directional bluegrass projection, at a 26.19-inch scale.
Hardware includes guitar-style tuners rather than banjo-specific friction pegs (easier for guitarists transitioning to banjo), a geared 5th-string tuning peg, a single coordinator rod, and a straight-line tailpiece. At 5.5 lbs it's light and easy to hold for extended practice, finished in vintage brown satin, and Gold Tone ships every CC-50 completely set up and playable out of the box from its Florida factory rather than requiring a shop setup.

Sound character of the Gold Tone CC-50
The Cripple Creek pairs a rolled brass tone ring with an open back rather than a resonator - the ring adds some brightness and sustain over a plain rim, but without a resonator to reflect sound forward, the overall voice stays warmer and more moderate in volume, well suited to old-time and clawhammer styles that still want a bit more ring than a bare-rim banjo.
