About the Taylor GS Mini Mahogany

The GS Mini shrinks Taylor's Grand Symphony shape to a genuinely portable size - just over 36 inches long overall - while keeping proportionally similar bracing and body architecture rather than simply copying a traditional 3/4-size student guitar. The Mahogany version uses a solid tropical mahogany top, generally described as warmer and more compressed-sounding than a spruce top, paired with layered sapele back, sides and neck and a West African Crelicam ebony fingerboard.

The scale length is a short 23.5 inches with a 1 11/16-inch nut width and 20 frets, making the guitar comfortable for smaller hands or quick pickup-and-play sessions. Hardware is simple: die-cast chrome tuners, a Nubone nut and Micarta saddle, and a black pickguard. This base version ships with no electronics and no cutaway, strung with phosphor bronze medium strings, and comes with a structured gig bag rather than a hard case.

Sound character of the Taylor GS Mini Mahogany

The GS Mini's scaled-down Grand Symphony body punches above its size for volume and low-end, while its solid mahogany top (rather than spruce) leans the tone warmer and darker, with a quicker, more compressed note decay than a spruce-topped equivalent.

The history of the Taylor GS Mini Mahogany

Taylor introduced the GS Mini in 2010 as a genuinely well-built travel and companion guitar rather than a toy-like mini instrument, applying the company's full-size construction standards to a smaller format. The Mahogany version followed as a tonal alternative to the original spruce-top GS Mini, and the line has become one of Taylor's most consistently recommended guitars for players wanting a true second instrument for travel, camping, or simply playing around the house.
