Yamaha YAS-480

Availability: 0/10 (Very rare)
An intermediate alto built around the original YAS-62 design, giving an advancing player the flagship professional saxophone's core acoustic identity at a step-up rather than professional price.
About the Yamaha YAS-480
Rather than designing a separate intermediate acoustic profile, Yamaha built the YAS-480 directly on the original YAS-62 design - its 62-style neck was specifically redesigned for improved tone and response, and the octave key system was engineered to also support Yamaha's Custom Z and Custom EX necks, letting a player later upgrade the neck alone rather than the whole instrument as their playing develops.
Separate key guards with adjustable screw-cap stoppers allow the same fine technical adjustment found on Yamaha's professional saxophones, while a more comfortable left-hand seesaw key design and improved low B-C# connection address ergonomics and low-register reliability respectively. Yellow brass throughout the neck, body and keys, paired with the included ASC-400E case and 4C mouthpiece, round out a genuinely professional-adjacent instrument at an intermediate price point.

Sound character of the Yamaha YAS-480
Built around the same core design as the flagship YAS-62, the annealed-brass YAS-480 gives an advancing player much of that flagship's focused, resonant core tone at a step-up rather than full professional price.

The history of the Yamaha YAS-480
Yamaha built the YAS-480 as an intermediate step-up saxophone directly derived from the YAS-62's design, letting advancing players access professional acoustic DNA before a full professional purchase.
