Yamaha's most popular professional alto saxophone since its 1979 introduction, using annealed brass and a tighter-taper neck bore specifically engineered for a solid tonal core with fast response.
About the Yamaha YAS-62
The YAS-62's yellow brass neck, body and hand-engraved two-piece bell are annealed - a heat-treatment process Yamaha applies to make the brass denser, aimed directly at producing a clearer, more focused tone than untreated brass typically gives. Its neck uses a slightly tighter-taper bore than earlier Yamaha designs, a change intended to speed up response and give the player more control while still allowing a comfortable, unrestricted air flow.
Professional-tier details like tilting low Bb spatula keys, refined key shapes, leather pads with wool felt, and polyester tone buttons carry through a saxophone Yamaha has continuously refined since the YAS-61's 1969 debut - the 62 has stayed Yamaha's flagship professional alto for decades specifically because each generation's changes have been evolutionary refinements rather than a search for an entirely new voice.
