The third generation of Yamaha's flagship professional alto, refining the 62's core design with updated ergonomics and finish options rather than reinventing an already-proven platform.
About the Yamaha YAS-62III
The YAS-62III continues the annealed brass construction and tighter-taper neck bore that defined the original YAS-62 and its Mark II successor, treating the underlying acoustic design as settled and focused refinement efforts on ergonomics and finish instead. Available in gold lacquer, dark amber lacquer or silver plate depending on a player's tonal and aesthetic preference, the III generation keeps the same tilting low Bb spatula keys and hand-engraved bell that have defined the line since 1979.
That refine-rather-than-reinvent approach across three generations is precisely why the 62 series has remained Yamaha's most popular professional alto for over four decades - rather than chasing a different voice with each update, Yamaha has treated the core design as correct from the start and used successive generations to polish details around it.
