The second generation of Yamaha's most popular professional tenor, produced roughly from 1990 to 2000, refining the original 62's neck receiver and octave key for smoother response.
About the Yamaha YTS-62II
The YTS-62II's newly designed neck receiver improves tone evenness compared to the original YTS-62, while a custom-styled octave key redesign was aimed specifically at smoother, quicker response - refinements to an already well-established platform rather than a fresh design. Silicon-treated leather pads protect against moisture damage more effectively than untreated leather, an important durability consideration for a horn that will absorb a lot of condensation over years of regular playing.
Blue steel needle springs and acoustic annealing of the body give faster, more sensitive key response and a superior tonal character, while its slightly narrower bore delivers a comfortable blow, faster response, easy control and a slightly darker tone with a more solid tonal core than a wider-bore alternative. Produced for roughly a decade before the current 62III generation, the YTS-62II remains a well-regarded used purchase for players wanting Yamaha's flagship tenor sound at a lower price than current production.
