Camac Mademoiselle

Availability: 0/10 (Very rare)
A 40-string lever harp deliberately built to the exact string length, spacing, tension and playing position of Camac's own concert grand pedal harps, so it plays and feels identical minus the pedals.
About the Camac Mademoiselle
Camac markets the Mademoiselle explicitly as sharing every playing characteristic of its Concert Grand pedal harps - same string lengths, same spacing, same tension, same touch and body position - with the only difference being Camac's own lever mechanism substituting for pedals. That makes it functionally a training and gigging instrument for pedal harpists rather than a separate folk-harp design philosophy, unlike lever harps built around a lighter, easier touch.
It carries 40 strings across the E00-A36 range: nylon strings for the gut-strung register (E00-F3), true gut strings from E4-D26, and Galli lever wires from C27-A36 - a deliberately mixed stringing scheme matching what a Camac pedal harp itself uses rather than an all-nylon simplification. The body is maple and beech with a spruce soundboard, at 159cm tall and 22kg, available in natural maple, cherry, walnut, mahogany or black finishes.

Sound character of the Camac Mademoiselle
Because the Mademoiselle is deliberately built to the exact string length, spacing and tension of Camac's concert grand pedal harps, it carries a fuller, more resonant tone than typical lever harps its size - the tradeoff for feeling and sounding like a pedal harp is the absence of the pedals' quick chromatic switching.

The history of the Camac Mademoiselle
Camac, a French harp maker founded in 1972 and now one of the largest pedal and lever harp manufacturers in Europe, built the Mademoiselle specifically for players who want lever-harp portability without the technique gap that usually exists between lever and pedal harps.
