About the Martin CEO-7

The CEO-7 uses Martin's 00-body size in a 14-fret, slope-shoulder configuration - smaller and more compact than a dreadnought, generally associated with a more focused, articulate voice suited to fingerstyle and smaller-venue playing over sheer volume. The top is solid Adirondack spruce, prized for its dynamic range and headroom, over solid mahogany back and sides, braced with a standard scalloped X-bracing pattern using solid Adirondack spruce braces.

The neck carries a Modified V profile - a shape with a subtle ridge down the back, historically associated with Martin's earlier production and preferred by some players for thumb-over-the-neck fingerstyle technique - at a 1 3/4-inch nut width and 24.9-inch scale, joined to the body via a dovetail joint with solid mahogany blocks. The fingerboard is solid ebony with Old Style 18 inlays, bound in grained ivoroid, and the guitar is typically finished in an Autumn Sunset burst with aged-look hardware.

Sound character of the Martin CEO-7

The CEO-7 pairs a solid mahogany top with mahogany back and sides for an all-mahogany voice: warm, dry, and midrange-focused rather than bright and overtone-rich, favoring clarity for fingerstyle playing over dreadnought-style volume.

The history of the Martin CEO-7

Martin's CEO series is used by the company to release small-batch, often experimental specifications outside its standard model lineup, frequently incorporating tonewood or construction choices the company wants to explore in limited numbers rather than full production. The CEO-7's combination of Adirondack spruce, a slope-shoulder 00 body, and Modified V neck reflects this approach - drawing together vintage-inspired specification choices into a single, deliberately compact instrument.
