John Mayer's Orchestra Model signature: an Engelmann spruce top over East Indian rosewood back and sides, a specially designed hybrid scalloped bracing pattern, and a low-profile neck aimed at players moving between electric and acoustic.
About the Martin OM-JM John Mayer
The OM-JM uses Martin's Orchestra Model (OM) body, a 14-fret, waist-forward design generally regarded as a versatile middle ground between the smaller 000 and larger dreadnought shapes. The top is Engelmann spruce - a variety often described as slightly warmer and more complex than the more common Sitka spruce - over East Indian rosewood back and sides, braced with a hybrid scalloped pattern Martin developed specifically for Mayer's specifications.
The mahogany neck uses a Low Profile shape with standard taper at a 1 11/16-inch nut width and 25.4-inch scale, intended to feel familiar to players coming from electric guitars. The ebony fingerboard carries simple mother-of-pearl position markers along with Mayer's own signature inlaid in pearl between the 19th and 20th frets. Electronics are a Fishman Gold Plus Natural I system, and hardware includes nickel Gotoh open-geared tuners with butterbean-style buttons.

Sound character of the Martin OM-JM John Mayer
The OM-JM's Orchestra Model body sits between the smaller 000 and a full dreadnought in size, giving a balanced voice with more bass presence than a 000 but more articulation and note separation than a dreadnought; its rosewood back and sides with a spruce top add the bright, overtone-rich complexity typical of that wood pairing.

The history of the Martin OM-JM John Mayer
John Mayer, known primarily as an electric guitarist, worked with Martin to develop a signature acoustic aimed at players with a similar background - emphasizing a neck feel and overall playability closer to an electric guitar than Martin's more traditionally specified acoustics. The OM-JM has remained a consistent part of Martin's signature-model lineup since its introduction.
