Gibson's square-shouldered dreadnought, reintroduced with modern appointments: solid mahogany back and sides under a Sitka spruce top, scalloped X-bracing, and an onboard LR Baggs VTC pickup system.
About the Gibson Hummingbird Standard
The Hummingbird Standard keeps the square-shouldered dreadnought silhouette that has defined the model since its introduction, built from solid mahogany back and sides with a Sitka spruce top for clear, powerful projection. Bracing is Gibson's traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing pattern, and the top and back binding (multi-ply top, single-ply back) preserves the guitar's decorative pickguard and rosette details associated with the original design.
The mahogany neck joins the body via a compound dovetail joint glued with hot hide glue - a traditional, labor-intensive construction method - and carries a rounded profile with a bound rosewood fingerboard, 20 frets and mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays at the 24.75-inch scale. A TUSQ nut pairs with Grover Rotomatic tuners for tuning stability, and the guitar ships with an LR Baggs VTC pickup system with onboard compression built in, making it stage-ready without an outboard preamp.

Sound character of the Gibson Hummingbird Standard
The Hummingbird's square-shouldered dreadnought body and mahogany back and sides give it a punchy, midrange-forward voice well suited to strumming, with the solid spruce top adding clear articulation and enough brightness to cut through a mix without becoming as boomy or bass-heavy as a rosewood dreadnought.

The history of the Gibson Hummingbird Standard
Gibson introduced the Hummingbird in 1960 as its first square-shouldered dreadnought, distinguished by an elaborate floral-and-hummingbird pickguard design that gave the model its name. It became closely associated with the guitar's ornate look as much as its tone, and has been used across genres from rock to country; the current Standard version, part of Gibson's modern acoustic lineup, is handcrafted at the company's Bozeman, Montana facility alongside the rest of Gibson's acoustic range.
