A genuinely hollow PRS rather than a chambered solidbody pretending to be one - carved maple top and back over mahogany sides, with a mahogany center post tying the two together specifically to keep feedback in check at gig volume. The piezo system, co-developed with L.R. Baggs and built into the bridge saddles, routes separately from the magnetic pickups through two independent volume controls and two output jacks, so the guitar can blend acoustic and electric tone on one amp or feed two signal chains entirely apart.

About the PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo

Unlike most PRS electrics, which build feedback resistance through a solid or lightly chambered body, the Hollowbody II Piezo is genuinely hollow - a carved, laminated maple top and back with flame maple veneer, mahogany sides, and f-holes that make the construction visible rather than just implied. What keeps that hollow cavity from howling at stage volume is a mahogany center post running through the body, coupling top to back the way a sustain block does in a semi-hollow design, just without filling the whole cavity. The piezo half of the name comes from saddle-mounted piezo elements built into the PRS Adjustable Piezo Stoptail bridge, developed with L.R. Baggs - a pairing this project's research didn't find on any other PRS SE model, since the magnetic 58/15 LT 'S' pickups work alongside rather than instead of that acoustic-sensing hardware. Two independent volume knobs and two separate output jacks (Mix/Piezo and Magnetics-only) mean the guitar supports two genuinely different workflows: blend both signals through a single amp, or split them entirely - magnetic pickups to a guitar amp, piezo to an acoustic amp or DI - without any onboard mixing at all.

Sound character of the PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo

The 58/15 LT 'S' magnetic pickups read as full and round with airy top end, carrying somewhat less aggressive punch than a classic PAF-style humbucker but making up for it with versatility - pickup combinations produce convincingly Strat-adjacent clean and rhythm tones when paired with modulation or ambient effects, and driven through an amp they deliver plenty of sustain and grit. The piezo side offers three-dimensional, percussive and dynamically rich acoustic character with a notable absence of the thin, quacky tone that's historically dogged piezo systems, and blending it into an overdriven magnetic signal adds a percussive spank that neither pickup type produces alone.

What owners of the PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo say

Owners, including one playing a 2008 Core-era model, describe the guitar as very light and comfortable in hand with no squealing or feedback issues even on sustained, high-gain rock leads - a notable claim for a genuinely hollow body. One forum post summed up general sentiment by calling it a flat-out winner with outstanding value for money, and the Hollowbody II format overall is credited with covering the tonal range of most two-humbucker guitars while staying unusually feedback-resistant for its construction. Not every account is glowing: one reviewer found their unit's pickups sounded dull, noted inconsistent volume between individual piezo saddles, and pointed out that this SE model lacks the per-saddle piezo adjustment some Core models offer - a real, named limitation rather than vague dissatisfaction.

Playability & handling of the PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo

Despite a body depth of 63.5mm - noticeably deeper than a typical solidbody - the guitar is described as retaining the ergonomic comfort of a solidbody instrument rather than feeling like an armful of extra bulk. The mahogany Wide Fat neck carve is characterized as a genuinely comfortable palmful, and overall handling reads as smooth and responsive rather than compromised by the hollow construction.

Recommended accessories & strings for the PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo

The two-jack routing is the feature worth planning around: a player who wants a true acoustic-and-electric rig without carrying two instruments can send the Mix/Piezo output to a DI or acoustic amp while the dedicated magnetics jack feeds a standard guitar amp, rather than relying on an onboard blend that compromises both tones. Blending both pickup types through a single output is also usable on its own terms - reviewers found dialing in a touch of piezo against the magnetic signal works almost like an added EQ stage, accentuating frequencies the humbuckers alone don't bring out, rather than functioning purely as an acoustic-tone substitute.

The history of the PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo

PRS's Hollowbody line goes back to around 1998, built as a genuinely hollow departure from the solidbody and semi-hollow designs that otherwise define the brand's catalog, with the Hollowbody II running in production until 2020 before being succeeded in part by the McCarty 594 Hollowbody II that debuted in 2019. The SE Series brought its own Hollowbody II Piezo to that lineage in 2020, pairing the hollow-body format with the L.R. Baggs-developed piezo system for the first time at SE pricing - described by PRS itself as the most versatile instrument the SE Series had produced across its then twenty-year history.

About PRS as a manufacturer

Built as part of PRS's Indonesia-made SE line (background on the line's origin is documented for the SE Custom 24 elsewhere in this project), this model represents PRS extending a genuinely hollow, piezo-equipped design - previously a USA Core-only proposition - down into SE pricing at roughly a third of the Core version's cost according to one review, rather than offering a simplified imitation of the hollow-body concept.

Notable players & recordings featuring the PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo

No verified professional endorsement ties a specific touring artist to this exact SE model - consistent with its role as an accessible entry into PRS's hollow-body format rather than an artist-driven design.
