About the Buffet Crampon B12

The B12's ABS resin body resists humidity and temperature swings that would crack a wood clarinet, an important practical consideration for an instrument that will spend years in school lockers and instrument cases. Metal tenon rings and nickel-plated Böhm-system keywork across 17 keys and 6 rings sit atop a 65mm barrel tuned for a focused, crisp tone despite the beginner-friendly body material, and double fishskin pads provide the seal quality typically found on wood clarinets a tier above.

Buffet's reputation for reliable intonation and centered tone on its professional instruments carries through to the B12 in scaled-down form, which is precisely why it earned its standing as the default recommendation for school band programs for decades - a genuinely capable instrument rather than a compromise made purely for durability.

Sound character of the Buffet Crampon B12

Despite its durable ABS resin body, the B12's 65mm barrel is tuned for the focused, crisp tone Buffet's professional instruments are known for, and double fishskin pads give it a seal quality more typical of a tier-above wood clarinet - a genuinely centered sound rather than the thinner tone common on other beginner-priced instruments.
