About the Buffet Crampon E12
Built from unstained Dalbergia melanoxylon (African blackwood) treated and lacquered for durability, the E12 uses a poly-cylindrical bore across 17 keys with an adjustable thumb rest that accommodates a neck strap - a practical detail for younger players still building the arm and hand strength to hold the instrument unsupported for a full rehearsal. Silver-plated keywork and blue steel flat and needle springs round out a spec sheet aimed squarely at intermediate players stepping up from plastic.
Buffet describes the E12 as carrying its acoustic design intent - stable response, centered tone, reliable intonation across registers - down into its entry wood-bodied model, meaning the tonal philosophy a player will encounter on a professional Buffet clarinet later is already present here, just executed at a lower price point.

Sound character of the Buffet Crampon E12
As Buffet's first wood-bodied step-up model, the E12's unstained blackwood body and poly-cylindrical bore give it a noticeably warmer, more centered tone than a resin student clarinet, carrying the same stable, focused response Buffet builds into its professional line rather than a simplified beginner voicing. It sits tonally between a plastic beginner horn and the richer overtone content of an R13.

The history of the Buffet Crampon E12
As Buffet's first wood-bodied clarinet within its intermediate range, the E12 introduced players to genuine Grenadilla-family tone before they graduate to the company's professional R13-based instruments.
