About the Modulus Quantum Five-String Natural 1993

Modulus Graphite built its reputation on a simple substitution: a bolt-on neck made from carbon-fiber/graphite composite instead of wood, paired with a phenolic composite fingerboard. The material is dimensionally stable across temperature and humidity swings, which largely eliminates the neck relief changes and dead spots that affect wooden bass necks, and gives the Quantum series its characteristically tight, consistent low end. This 1993 five-string example carries a 35-inch scale length and 24 frets, sized for extended low-B response, with a neck built noticeably wide even by five-string standards - roughly 1.91 inches at the nut widening to 2.75 inches by the 24th fret.

Electronics on instruments from this era are typically active EMG soapbar pickups paired with an active EMG preamp offering volume, pickup blend and EQ shaping, routed through a Hipshot A-style bridge and Gotoh tuners. Modulus basses from the early '90s predate the company's later ownership changes and represent the boutique period when the brand was most closely associated with session and fusion bassists seeking a low end that stayed consistent night after night regardless of stage temperature or humidity.

Sound character of the Modulus Quantum Five-String Natural 1993

The carbon-fiber/graphite neck and phenolic fingerboard are dimensionally stable and stiffer than wood, transmitting string vibration with less of the damping and frequency coloration a wooden neck adds - the result is a clearer, more consistent tone across the entire fingerboard with no dead spots, further sharpened by the active EMG soapbar pickups and preamp.
