A step-up violin above Stentor's Student lines: carved flamed maple back and spruce top finished in Stentor's own Shellax varnish, with a Wittner-style tailpiece and deluxe case aimed at intermediate players.
About the Stentor 1550 Conservatoire
The Conservatoire moves beyond the Student II's straightforward construction with carved flamed maple for the back and ribs - figured wood chosen for appearance as well as tone - and a solid carved spruce top, all finished in Stentor's own Shellax varnish rather than a standard lacquer. Ebony fittings and traditional inlaid purfling around the top edge mark it as a genuine step up in both cosmetics and build detail.
The tailpiece carries four integrated fine-tuners in a black composite design, strung with synthetic gut strings rather than the more basic steel-core strings on entry outfits - synthetic gut offers a warmer, more complex tone favored as students progress. The outfit includes a solid wood octagonal bow with ebony frog and a deluxe lightweight oblong case with hygrometer, carrying strap and music pocket, positioned by Stentor and teachers alike as a natural step-up instrument once a Student-tier violin has been outgrown.

Sound character of the Stentor 1550 Conservatoire
One tier above the Student line, the Conservatoire uses better-selected, hand-finished solid spruce and maple with a more carefully graduated top plate, giving it noticeably more resonance and tonal warmth than the entry Student II while remaining a factory-setup instrument rather than a workshop-carved one.
