Stentor's genuine entry point below the Student II: solid carved spruce and maple with rosewood rather than ebony fittings, sold in an exceptionally wide range of sizes down to 1/64 for the youngest beginners.
About the Stentor 1400 Student I
The Student I sits a tier below the Student II in Stentor's range, using the same solid carved spruce top and solid carved maple back, ribs and neck, but with a blackened rosewood fingerboard and dark rosewood pegs rather than genuine ebony - a cost-appropriate substitution at the entry price point, since blackened rosewood mimics ebony's look and function closely enough for a first instrument. An alloy tailpiece with four integral fine-tuners still gives beginners easier pitch adjustment than tuning pegs alone.
A Teka-pattern wood chin rest and inlaid purfling around the top edge round out the appointments, with a wood bow featuring an ebony frog and natural horsehair included in the outfit. The Student I is available across an unusually wide size range - 4/4 down through 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/10, 1/16, 1/32 and even 1/64 - covering essentially every young beginner from teenagers down to preschool-age children.
