About the Yamaha YCL-622II
The YCL-622II's low-C extension adds five dedicated keys beyond a standard low-Eb bass clarinet, aimed at orchestral and wind-ensemble players who need the additional written range. Its 24-key silver-plated nickel-silver keywork sits on redesigned, undercut tapered tone holes meant to give more stable intonation and playability than earlier Yamaha bass clarinet generations, while a machined nickel-silver bore and bell provide consistent tonal focus across a large instrument.
The metal inner tenon sleeves at the body joints are a deliberate engineering choice - bass clarinets are especially prone to air leaks and resonance loss at their joints given their size, and Yamaha addressed this directly rather than relying on cork alone. An adjustable floor peg supports the instrument's weight during long playing sessions, and it ships with a Yamaha 4C mouthpiece on the Böhm system.

Sound character of the Yamaha YCL-622II
As a bass clarinet extending to low C, the YCL-622II naturally produces a much deeper, darker fundamental than a standard Bb clarinet. Yamaha's metal inner tenon sleeves at the body joints reduce the air leaks and resonance loss that large clarinets are especially prone to at their seams, while the machined nickel-silver bore and bell keep tone focused and consistent across its unusually wide range.
