About the Fender American Professional II Precision Bass

The American Professional II Precision Bass is built at Fender's Corona plant on an alder body with gloss urethane finish and a 3-ply mint green pickguard, following the Precision Bass's classic silhouette introduced in the 1950s. The maple neck uses a "1963" profile - a specific vintage neck shape Fender revived for this generation - finished in satin urethane with a gloss headstock face, and adds rolled fingerboard edges for comfort. The rosewood fingerboard sits at a 9.5-inch radius with 20 frets and a 1.625-inch bone nut, at the standard 34-inch bass scale.

Electronics are a single V-Mod II split-coil Precision Bass pickup, the pickup configuration that gave the model its name and its thick, punchy fundamental tone. The bridge is a 4-saddle HiMass Vintage design usable as either string-through-body or top-load, offering players a choice between maximum sustain and easier restringing. Lightweight vintage-style tuners with tapered shafts round out hardware focused on tuning stability without excess weight.

Sound character of the Fender American Professional II Precision Bass

Fender's V-Mod II split-coil pickup and a slightly hotter wind than vintage-spec P-Basses keep the classic warm, punchy P-Bass fundamental but add extra clarity and output, aided by the American Professional II's alder/ash body options and Deep C neck.

The history of the Fender American Professional II Precision Bass

The Fender Precision Bass, introduced in 1951, was the first mass-produced electric bass guitar and established the format most electric basses have followed since - a fretted neck that let players find pitches "precisely" compared to the fretless upright basses it began replacing. The American Professional line replaced the American Standard/American Series in 2017, with the "II" revision following in 2020 to add the rolled fingerboard edges and 1963-profile neck seen on this generation.
