About the Fender Standard Jazz Bass

Fender revived the 'Standard' name for a new series built in Indonesia and introduced starting at $599, positioned below the Player II line. The current Standard Jazz Bass follows the same basic dual-single-coil Jazz Bass formula, using Fender's own Standard-branded ceramic pickups, a poplar body, and a satin-finished Modern C neck with sealed tuners to hit a lower price point than Player II. It should not be confused with the earlier Mexican-made Standard Series Jazz Bass produced from 1991 to 2008, which was a different generation with its own spec set and predates the Player series entirely.

Within Fender's current lineup, the Standard Jazz Bass gives buyers an in-house-designed, on-brand alternative to Squier's Classic Vibe models, closing the gap that had opened between Squier (topping out around $449) and Player II (starting around $799).

Sound character of the Fender Standard Jazz Bass

Built in Indonesia as part of Fender's newer, budget-focused Standard Series, this Jazz Bass uses Fender's own Standard-branded ceramic single-coil pickups rather than the alnico pickups of pricier Jazz Basses - ceramic magnets typically add output and top-end bite at the expense of some alnico warmth. The poplar body is tonally fairly neutral, so the pickups do most of the character work here, giving a brighter, more aggressive J-Bass voice than a vintage-style alnico version.
