About the Fender Player Jazz Bass

The Player Jazz Bass keeps the two single-coil pickup formula that has defined the Jazz Bass since 1960 - one at the neck, one near the bridge, blended via separate volume controls and a shared tone knob - using Fender's Player-series Alnico 5 pickups. The neck carries Fender's 'Modern C' profile with a 9.5-inch fingerboard radius and narrow-tall frets, a spec shared across most Player-series instruments rather than something unique to the bass.

As the successor to the older Standard series in Fender's Mexican-made lineup, the Player Jazz Bass occupies the same market position: the primary entry point into a 'real' Fender Jazz Bass below the price of the American Professional II line, without the vintage-reissue specifications (like AVRI pickups or nitro finishes) reserved for Fender's higher-tier or Vintera lines.

Sound character of the Fender Player Jazz Bass

The Player series' dual single-coil J pickups reproduce the classic scooped-mid, bright Jazz Bass voice, with Fender's updated Player-era pickup winding giving it slightly more output and punch than a vintage-spec equivalent.
