About the Fender Standard Precision Bass

The Standard Precision Bass is part of Fender's Standard Series, introduced starting at $599 and built in Indonesia rather than Fender's usual Mexican or American plants. It keeps the classic split single-coil pickup design that defines the P-Bass sound, but uses Fender's own Standard-branded ceramic pickups, a poplar body, and a satin-finished Modern C neck with sealed tuners - a spec sheet built to hit a lower price point while still carrying the Fender (not Squier) name.

The series was created specifically to close the gap that had opened between Squier's Classic Vibe line (topping out around $449) and Fender's own Player II series (starting around $799), giving buyers an in-house-branded step up from Squier without the cost of Player II's Mexican-made construction and alnico pickups.

Sound character of the Fender Standard Precision Bass

Built in Indonesia as part of Fender's newer, budget-focused Standard Series, this Precision Bass uses Fender's own Standard-branded ceramic split-coil pickup rather than the alnico pickups of pricier P-Basses - ceramic magnets typically add output and top-end bite at the expense of some alnico warmth, giving it a slightly brighter, more aggressive P-Bass voice.
