Gibson's most affordable flat-top of its era: an all-mahogany student guitar with simple ladder bracing, a round soundhole and minimal appointments, aimed squarely at beginners rather than professional players.
About the Gibson LG-0
The LG-0 sits at the bottom of Gibson's LG series, stripped of the appointments found on the LG-1, LG-2 and LG-3. The top, back and sides are all mahogany rather than the spruce top common on higher LG models, and bracing is simple ladder bracing rather than X-bracing - a construction associated with a punchier, more midrange-forward tone and lower cost than Gibson's fancier flat-tops of the same years. Early examples from 1958 to 1961 carry a straight rectangular rosewood bridge, a rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays at the 24.75-inch scale, and a black-finished headstock with a screen-printed logo rather than an inlaid one.
In 1962 Gibson switched the bridge from the original rosewood design to a bolted-on plastic bridge as a cost-saving measure, a change collectors use to help date individual examples. The body carries a teardrop-shaped pickguard screwed rather than glued to the top, and finish is a plain satin rather than the sunburst or gloss options offered on costlier models.

Sound character of the Gibson LG-0
The small-bodied LG-0's mahogany top (rather than the spruce found on most flat-tops of the era) gives it an unusually dry, dark, woody voice with limited projection and sustain - a budget-oriented specification from Gibson's lower-tier line, distinct from the bright, resonant sound of spruce-topped models.

The history of the Gibson LG-0
Gibson introduced the LG-0 in 1958 as its lowest-priced flat-top acoustic, aimed at students and beginning players who needed a genuinely playable instrument at minimal cost - it listed around $85 in 1960. Despite its budget positioning, the ladder-braced mahogany construction gave it a distinct tonal character that some players sought out specifically, and it remained a strong seller for Gibson through the early 1960s before production wound down in the following years.
