A pocket-sized, battery-powered FM synthesizer bringing genuine six-operator FM synthesis compatible with classic DX7 patches into Korg's compact, affordable Volca hardware format.
About the Korg Volca FM
The Volca FM's synthesis engine is built to be patch-compatible with the Yamaha DX7, meaning decades of existing DX7 sound banks and programming knowledge translate directly onto this pocket-sized instrument rather than requiring an entirely new FM implementation to learn from scratch. This compatibility gives the Volca FM access to the same glassy bells, electric pianos and metallic textures that made the DX7 iconic, at a fraction of the size, weight and price of vintage or modern full-size FM synths.
As part of Korg's Volca line, it runs on batteries and includes a built-in step sequencer, reflecting the series' design philosophy of small, self-contained, immediately playable instruments meant for quick sketching and jamming rather than deep studio integration - genuine FM synthesis stripped down to its most accessible, portable form.

Sound character of the Korg Volca FM
Volca FM uses genuine 3-operator FM synthesis (DX7-compatible patches) in a tiny battery-powered unit, producing the same bright, glassy, metallic and bell-like FM timbres as its full-size ancestors, just with a simplified interface for editing the underlying operator/algorithm parameters.
