A semi-modular analog percussion synthesizer designed specifically for drum and rhythmic sound design rather than melodic playing, built as a sibling instrument to the Mother-32 sharing the same patch-bay format.
About the Moog DFAM
DFAM (Drummer From Another Mother) uses two analog VCOs and dedicated envelope and filter circuitry tuned specifically for percussive sounds - punchy kicks, metallic hits, noisy textures - rather than the sustained tones a melodic synth targets. Its two independent 8-step sequencers can run simultaneously at different rates or trigger points, generating polyrhythmic, constantly shifting drum patterns from purely analog circuitry rather than a digital drum machine's fixed sample playback.
Like the Mother-32, DFAM ships pre-patched to work immediately but exposes its entire signal path on a patch bay, letting it integrate directly into a Eurorack modular system as its owner's setup grows - Moog specifically designed the two instruments as complementary halves of a semi-modular starter system, one built for melody and one for rhythm.

Sound character of the Moog DFAM
DFAM has no keyboard or fixed drum samples - it generates percussive sounds entirely from two analog VCOs shaped by fast envelope generators and Moog's ladder filter, so its 'drum' sounds are really pitched, punchy analog synth hits, capable of anything from tight kicks to growling, resonant percussion.
