About the Yamaha BB434

The BB434 uses a contoured solid alder body styled after Yamaha's original 1977 BroadBass, paired with a 5-ply maple-and-mahogany laminated neck bolted on via Yamaha's 6-bolt miter joint rather than a conventional 4-bolt plate. Yamaha's own literature credits that miter joint with tighter neck-to-body contact and more efficient string-vibration transfer than a standard bolt-on, aimed at improved sustain and resonance.

Pickups are Yamaha's V5 Alnico units in a split-coil P (neck) and single-coil J (bridge) configuration, voiced to reference the vintage BB tone while pushing a brighter output suited to cutting through a live mix. The rosewood fingerboard and 21-fret layout keep the rest of the specification close to a conventional P/J bass, with the miter neck joint as the BB series' main structural distinction.

Sound character of the Yamaha BB434

Yamaha's 6-bolt miter neck joint is designed to couple the neck and body more tightly than a standard 4-bolt plate, which the company credits with improved resonance transfer, while the PJ pickup pairing (split P at neck, single-coil J at bridge) blends the P pickup's thick punch with the J pickup's brighter edge.
