About the Squier Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass

The '70s Jazz Bass targets the post-1976 Fender Jazz Bass specifically, most visibly through its enlarged 'CBS-style' headstock, which replaced the smaller original Jazz Bass headstock that had persisted from the model's 1960 introduction through the mid-70s. The maple neck carries a bound fingerboard with pearloid block inlays, a feature Fender applied to Jazz Basses from 1966 onward, giving the instrument a visually different look from earlier dot-inlaid examples despite sharing the same core body shape and electronics layout.

Electrically it keeps two matched single-coil J pickups and the classic two-volume-plus-tone control layout that has defined the Jazz Bass since the early 1960s, so the difference from the Classic Vibe '60s Jazz Bass lies in headstock size, fingerboard look and binding rather than in the underlying sound-generating circuitry.

Sound character of the Squier Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass

The enlarged '70s-style headstock is a cosmetic/mass change rather than a pickup change - the tone still comes from the same dual single-coil J-Bass pickup layout, which delivers the classic scooped-mid, bright Jazz Bass voice, blending toward a punchier tone as the bridge pickup is favored.

Bright Vintage-voiced Punchy

The history of the Squier Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass

Fender enlarged the Jazz Bass headstock in 1976, a visual marker of the CBS-ownership era that the Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass specifically recreates alongside the bound, block-inlaid fingerboard introduced a decade earlier.
