A cutaway electro-classical with solid spruce top over solid walnut back and sides, a flat-radius ebony fingerboard, and Yamaha's Atmosfeel electronics blending a piezo pickup with an internal microphone.
About the Yamaha NCX3
The NCX3 pairs a solid spruce top with solid walnut back and sides - a less common tonewood pairing on classical guitars than cedar/rosewood or spruce/mahogany, chosen by Yamaha for a brighter, more even tonal balance. A single cutaway gives access to the upper frets on a body built to classical dimensions (490mm body length, 94-100mm depth), with a mahogany neck and ebony fingerboard at a traditional 2 1/16-inch (52mm) nut width and flat fingerboard radius, unlike the fusion-neck classicals aimed at steel-string players. The headstock is slotted in the traditional classical style rather than a solid paddle head.
Electronics are Yamaha's Atmosfeel system: a combination of an undersaddle piezo pickup, a soundboard transducer, and an internal microphone, blended through a 3-band preamp EQ to approximate a close-miked acoustic tone rather than the harder attack typical of piezo-only pickups. Hardware is gold-finished, with an ebony bridge.

Sound character of the Yamaha NCX3
The solid spruce top keeps the attack bright and defined, and solid walnut back and sides sit tonally between mahogany and rosewood - a balanced, moderately complex overtone profile - while the three-source Atmosfeel electronics (piezo, soundboard transducer and microphone) preserve more of that natural acoustic character when amplified than a simple undersaddle pickup would.

The history of the Yamaha NCX3
The NCX3 sits in Yamaha's NX/NCX electro-classical range, positioned for players who need reliable stage amplification - Yamaha's Atmosfeel electronics were developed specifically to reduce the artificial, quacky tone that undersaddle-only piezo systems produce on nylon strings.
