A hand-carved acoustic violin from Romania with a built-in bridge piezo pickup and active 4-band EQ, letting it function as both a genuine acoustic instrument and a stage-ready amplified violin.
About the Barcus-Berry Vibrato-AE
Unlike a purely acoustic student violin, the Vibrato-AE is built with a bridge-mounted piezo pickup and an active electronics package - a 4-band EQ plus master volume - wired directly into the instrument, so it can be plugged into an amp or PA without a separate clip-on pickup. Barcus-Berry, a brand historically known for pickup and pickup-system manufacturing rather than lutherie itself, applies that electronics expertise to a fully-carved acoustic violin body rather than a solid-body electric design.
Construction uses fully-carved and graduated Carpathian maple and spruce, hand-crafted in Romania, with ebony fittings and Super Sensitive Red Label strings as stock equipment. The complete outfit includes four Wittner tuners, a color-matched Glasser bow, a Barcus-Berry embroidered soft case with detachable shoulder strap, and rosin, set up to MENC standards. It's offered in several cosmetic finishes including Natural, Piano Black, Metallic Green Burst, Blue, Passion Pink and Red Berry Burst.

Sound character of the Barcus-Berry Vibrato-AE
The Vibrato-AE keeps a chambered, semi-acoustic wooden body instead of a solid slab, so it still resonates naturally on its own before the built-in piezo pickup amplifies it - giving it a rounder, warmer voice than a true solid-body electric violin, though the piezo itself adds a characteristic slightly bright, direct edge on top.

The history of the Barcus-Berry Vibrato-AE
Barcus-Berry built its name in the 1960s-70s as a pioneer of piezo pickup technology for acoustic instruments, and the Vibrato-AE extends that electronics heritage into a complete acoustic-electric violin rather than licensing pickups to other violin makers.
