About the Sterling by Music Man SUB StingRay Ray4

The SUB Ray4 keeps the core StingRay recipe - a single large humbucking pickup near the bridge feeding a 3-band active preamp, on a bolt-on maple neck - but builds it in Sterling's Indonesian factories with cost-appropriate substitutions: a basswood or similar body wood instead of the ash or poplar used on the US-made StingRay, and simplified hardware. The active EQ circuit is functionally the same 3-band boost/cut layout associated with the StingRay's percussive, mid-forward tone, making this a way to access that sound without the American-made price tag.

Sterling by Music Man is Ernie Ball Music Man's own budget sub-brand rather than a licensed copy from an unrelated manufacturer, which is why the electronics and pickup concept track the flagship StingRay closely instead of being a loose reinterpretation.
