About the Squier Classic Vibe '70s Precision Bass

The Classic Vibe '70s Precision Bass reproduces the visual and tonal cüs of Fender's post-1970s Precision Bass: a larger headstock shape than the original late-1950s design, block position markers on a bound fingerboard, and a single split-coil pickup wired the same way as the vintage original. The neck is finished in a satin polyurethane rather than the nitrocellulose lacquer of a real vintage instrument, and the body is alder rather than the ash sometimes seen on 1970s originals, both cost-driven substitutions typical of the Classic Vibe tier.

Where it differs from Fender's own vintage-reissue Precision Basses is manufacturing origin and price point: Classic Vibe instruments are built in Squier's Indonesian and Chinese factories to keep cost well below Fender's Mexican- or American-made equivalents, while still using period-correct pickup placement and scale length. It is aimed at players who want the '70s look and the split-coil P-Bass thump without paying for a Fender-branded vintage reissue.

Sound character of the Squier Classic Vibe '70s Precision Bass

This '70s-spec P-Bass keeps the split-coil pickup's warm, punchy P-Bass fundamental, but its maple neck and fretboard (a hallmark of Fender's '70s spec, versus the rosewood boards of the '50s/'60s) add a touch more brightness and snap to the attack.
